Introduction to Inconel 601 Alloy
Inconel 601 nickel-based alloy exhibits high mechanical properties and excellent oxidation resistance in high-temperature environments, along with good corrosion resistance to many corrosive media. It is widely used in metallurgy, heat treatment, chemical industry, environmental protection, and other fields.
Inconel 601 is a face-centered cubic austenitic solid-solution strengthened alloy developed by Huntington Alloys in the 1970s as part of the Ni-Cr series. Its high chromium content makes it suitable for many corrosive and high-temperature environments, while the addition of aluminum further enhances its strength and oxidation resistance. This alloy offers outstanding high-temperature oxidation resistance, excellent high-temperature mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance. It is easy to form, process, and weld, and can be manufactured into plates, tubes, wires, strips, bars, forgings, etc. It is widely used in petrochemicals, metallurgy, heat treatment, environmental protection, and other industries.

Hot Working Properties of Inconel 601
Inconel 601 alloy exhibits excellent hot working properties in the temperature range of 900–1250°C. Within the range of 1050–1200°C, it not only has good hot plasticity but also low deformation resistance, making it most suitable for hot working.
In lower temperature regions, the maximum deformation limit of INCONEL 601 alloy does not vary significantly under different deformation rates. At relatively low deformation rates, the corresponding deformation resistance is lower, allowing hot working even with small deformations. Above 1275°C, the alloy's maximum deformation limit decreases sharply, making hot working impossible.
Metallographic analysis of thermal simulation samples shows that dynamic recrystallization begins to occur in this alloy at temperatures above 850°C. At higher temperatures, such as 1200°C, recrystallization occurs very rapidly.
Various specifications of plates, bars, strips, wires, discs, ring blanks, and ring forgings are available. Bars are supplied in hot-rolled or forged condition, with surfaces ground or turned; discs and ring blanks are supplied in forged condition; rings are supplied in solution-treated condition; plates are supplied after solution treatment, alkali-acid pickling, straightening, and edge trimming; strips are delivered after cold rolling, solution treatment, and descaling; wires are supplied in solution-pickled coil or straight lengths, or in solution-treated straight fine-ground condition.
